The Euro was introduced as an accounting currency in 1995 and went into circulation at the beginning of 2002. It is the official currency of the Eurozone and is used by members of the European Union. 17 of the 28 countries are included in the euro including Germany, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, and Italy. Some major countries that do not use the Euro are Sweden and the UK. The Euro had a rough first two years but from 2002 to 2012 it was traded above the US dollar. After the global financial collapse in 2008, the Eurozone has experienced some probloems. COuntries were divided into creditors and debtors. Germany is the largest creditor country so it has become somewhat of a leader in the EU. (if not reluctantly) The most recent news concerning countries within the EU needing a bailout is, as of this week, Slovenia is most likely going to have to seek help with its finances.
