Lola Rennt
In the beginning of the film, I was a bit confused because it started off pretty suddenly with Lola and her boyfriend's argument on the phone. I will give it this though, the plot moved pretty fast and it kept my attention. As the film went on my initial impression changed because even though some of the background was still confusing it made it more entertaining trying to figure some of it out. I think that the format of repeating scenes with different outcomes was very interesting because it allows viewers to change their thoughts on the movie and the characters as it goes. For example, in the beginning when Lola and Manni were arguing a viewer might have have an idea on what might happen, and then be completely wrong. Like when Lola ends up getting shot or when Manni gets hit by the truck. Basically it keeps the film unpredictable and forces the viewer to keep guessing. In addition, I thought that hearing them speaking German along with the English subtitles helped in having a better understanding as to what was going on. I could tell that it was effective because after awhile I didn't need the subtitles to understand some of what was being said. I also thought it was interesting that along the way really minor details could have a large effect on the overall plot of the movie. Plus, once viewers realize that the scenes are being repeated they try to anticipate the next moves. I think that the reason that the filmmakers did this was for this reason. They wanted the viewer to see how minor details might have a huge affect on peoples lives. Also, they wanted to show that things won't always go as planned. For example, in the movie the first two scenes end badly, both with Lola getting shot and Manni getting run over. I think that was the point the filmmakers were trying to convey, that no matter how hard you try to anticipate the future things won't always go as planned as well as the fact that a persons smallest decision could have a large ripple effect. Overall, I would definitely recommend this film to a friend. Mostly because I think that this movie can cater to any audience. Some people might like the suspense of trying to figure out what will happen next. Others might just look at the uniqueness of it and think it's funny. Or, a select few might just like the techno music. Whatever the reasons, this movie was funny, strange, suspenseful and very entertaining.
