My first impression of Lola rennt was this is a very odd
movie. Lola rennt is not like your typical American movie, so I thought it was
weird at first. I don’t think the movie ever got normal but I did enjoy the
film quite a bit. I loved the repeating of the scenes and the different
outcomes. I think that it kept you interested and attentive. Every time the
scenario would start over I would be paying very close attention to see what
changed the second, or third, time around. An example would be Lola’s
interaction with the animated dog and boy. The first time the dog growled at
Lola but she continued on her way. The second time the boy tripped her and she
fell, also slowing down her time to get the money for Mani. The last time, Lola
thought faster and jumped over the dog and made it down the stairs unscathed. I
think the statement the film makers were making is that everything you do has a
chain effect. It showed that each time the interactions with people changed, so
did the fate of that person. I thought this was especially apparent with Lola.
Each time the ending would be drastically different depending on what she chose
to do. The one interaction that really stuck out to me was how the life of the
guy selling the bike changed after interacting with Lola. After the first
encounter he ended up getting jumped, but it ended in his favor because he met
his wife immediately after. The second showed him becoming a bum/drug addict
and meeting, what should have been, his wife but nothing ever happening because
of his appearance/life. The third he sold the bike to the bum who had found
Mani’s drug money. I would recommend this film to a friend, solely because of
how different it is. I would tell them it is a film worth seeing because it
will keep you engaged. Also I would say that it is pretty humorous, even though
I’m not sure the film makers were going for that.
