When german kids are 14 they are allowed to drink beer and wine as long as they are accompanied by a parent. At 16 they are allowed to drink beer and wine without their parents being there. When they are 18 they are allowed to have liquor or any alcohol. 18 for both U.S. and Germany regarding tobacco products.
As for american kids we are not allowed to drink legally until the age of 21, the United States has a different attitude about alcohol, trying to shelter kids from it instead of teaching them how to drink responsibly. If minors are caught in possession or under the influence in the united states they receive MIPs and that could negatively affect their future.
In america kids are allowed to start driving alone at the age of 16, while in Germany kids have to wait until they are 18. Although everything in cities is much closer and the need to drive in Germany is almost non existent except in rural areas. While in the United States everything is so spread out
The age to join the military in Germany is 17, while in the U.S it is 18. German kids are at least able to drink a beer at the same age they can die for their country, Americans can not.
Marriage age in Germany is 16 with courts permission and 18 to do free will. In the united states it is 18. I think german kids are lead to be more mature at younger ages and everything is more open, american kids have to hide drinking and that can potentially make it dangerous, as for responsibility american kids can drive much younger so at least we have that going for us.

Looking at marriage, one has to remember that we continue to develop as a person until the age of 25. Getting married at such a young at can be a negative thing. Couples tend to grow apart through their mid-twenties.
