Lola Rennt

6.5/10
Lola Rennt was not a bad movie by any means, and during its time this movie probably was very popular; however, from my perspective and my not knowing German film culture, it was a little hard to keep up with. Of course there is different humor and different means of body language in Germany, and because of that perhaps I misread particular points in some scenes. Not until the second outcome did I realize the structure of the film. I thought the plot was somewhat scattered and there were definitely unnecessary moments in the movie, such as the dog and her reaction to it every time. It wouldn't have been unnecessary if it had added footing to the movie, but in my opinion that scene was just a waste of time. Something I thoroughly enjoyed was the relationship between her and her father. Despite the unlikeliness of the father's response during the first run through, it added more depth to the movie.
For some reason, I believed the money was until later when I was corrected. Drugs would have made it much more interesting. And besides that fact, what would have been the reason of Mannie being in a black market diamond business? And in being involved in that business, wouldn't he have money himself? Wouldn't he have the money to pay for it? Carrying around 100,000 Marks, most would be more careful, especially when working with dangerous people. I did like the movie, don't get me wrong. Of course there are going to be flaws with it. One thing that added to the stability of the film was the repetition of the morning scene when her mother(?) asked for shampoo. Without that it would have been harder to distinguish that these were different outcomes that could be chosen. The screaming was unnecessary as well. What did that really add? It showed similarity between outcomes but really? Did she have to scream?
