Lola Rennt
I must admit, went I first began watching Lola Rennt I was not too into the whole plot. I found it difficult to follow and things were not adding up. It did not help that everything was spoken in German even though I have an interest in the Language. However, once the structure and plot of the movie became a bit more clear, I really began to appreciate the film. I absolutely loved the concept of of a repeating scene three times. I have never seen a movie set up this way and I was captivated. I think this unique setup up not only gives the viewer a break from the normal movie plot, but it also engages the viewer by keeping them guessing and predicting what will happen next even though the storyline is the same in each of the three runs. Personally, I think too much of the film was just shots of Lola's face when she was running. Also, the funky German techno music got old pretty fast. But thats just me. I think the filmmakers were trying to give the audience a fresh movie concept and I believe they succeeded. But I also think that they were trying to show the audience that difference between success or failure, happiness or sadness, and tragic loss or much gain, can be a very small thing. It could be a couple of seconds, or a matter of inches that separates two different outcomes. When I first realized that the movie was going to be the same story three times I was skeptical. But I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The makers of the film definatly conveyed their message to me. And I barely know any German! I would only recommend this film to only two types of people. Those who are studying German, or those who are searching for an alternative to most of the mainstream junk that is produced today. Either way, I thought it was a great film.
